Antoniades Architects is excited to announce that the development application for our multi-residential project comprising of 24 apartments located in Double Bay recently received approval.
It is a project that we are very proud of, and one that will have a great contextual fit as well as elevating its immediate surroundings once completed.
Our reference and design inspiration is the existing dilapidated 4 story residential building. We reflected upon the use of brick and sandstone as well as the traditional arched windows, which are prevalent in both materiality and the architectural language of the existing building.
The play of the arched form will characterise this development, as we introduced both the traditional arched element together with inverted arches to balconies to counterbalance and reinforce the breakup of the built form.
The light and non-dominant face brick colours chosen for the building reinforces the residential typology, sympathetically integrating with its context.
The overall architectural composition of the building is set up to provide for a darker brick base on the lowest levels, lighter brick with curvilinear building elements in the middle levels, whilst the upper level is recessed and finished in a metal cladding.
The breakup establishes an appropriate modulation and grouping of form, commensurate with the surrounding granularity of built form.
A range of unit typologies are included in the development with the upper-level penthouse having access to harbour views.
