The project committed to working with connecting to Country framework to create a unique building that references and acknowledges key Indigenous cultural practices and traditions. The Indigenous art of weaving has been used as a method to create bags, baskets, and fishing nets for centuries.
The architectural interpretation of the art of weaving was adopted to provide a rich, tactile metaphorical “basket” or podium to house the building. The weaving pattern enhances the permeability of the building, whilst also encouraging the engagement and connections between the resident and broader community. In a way, it is curating the streetscape program to provide a didactic and accessible experience, with reference to traditions, past and present.

The building is expressed as two tower forms, emphasised through height and setback strategies, and defined through an articulation that supports the transition of granularity across the precinct. The design integrates well with the streetscape pattern emerging on Regent Street, whilst also having regard to the adjoining heritage listed church.

A central spine is established within the building program that facilitates natural ventilation, light, and outlook from the corridors. Common areas are located across the building to enhance the social dynamic and access to amenity.
